URBAN MUSIC ENCOURAGING YOUTHS INTO POLITICS

Image
By Wongani Rudoh Nzima Music has been a powerful tool in politics since the 80's. Activists such as Bob Marley have been using their music inorder to influence change. As the 2019 Malawi tripartite elections are pending, the warm heart of Africa has witnessed the activeness of local urban artists in local politics and this has been greatly appreciated by local  citizens. 2014 tripartite elections marked the beginning of urban music intervention into Malawis politics when one of the presidential candidates Joyce Banda of Peoples Party (PP) included an urban song titled " Odi uko!"  which comprised of rap and dancehall artists. This influenced youths to participate since they were inspired by their own idols.  "I was greatly inspired seeing the likes of Fredokiss, Daredevils, Blak Jak and Young K doing a song for a political party. They influenced most of us as youths since it was a thing that has been never done before." Confessed Christopher Mbuli...

STEVE SPESHO TAKES SHOTS AT DAN LU IN HIS NEWLY RELEASED SONG

Gospel singer-cum-producer Steve Spesho silently took shots at the afro-pop icon Dan Lu in his new song titled Trend which was premiered on Made on Monday. In the song “ Trend” Steve sang about people who think those who advised them are doing so because they can’t withstand their success “ Mukumati tikumva pain tikamakulangizani ”   thereby referring to Dan Lu’s latest track “ Akumva Pain ” which talks about people who cannot withstand his every success. Steve continued to advise people not to be taken up by trend since it is nothing in the eyes of God. According to people who have listened to the song, that lyric strongly relates with Dan Lu’s latest scandal which involved leaking of his nude pictures. The songs credit itself brings about the name of Dan Lu in people’s mind before they even listen to it. The song is credited Trend by Steve Spesho featuring Land Lu. Regardless of who Land Lu is, his names presence brought Dan Lu in people’s mind. The Afro-pop ar...

THE NEW MISS MALAWI IS A MTUMBUKA

Image
The newly crowned miss Malawi- Tionge Munthali Who said the Northern people can never be models? " Tumbukas love soya pieces" "Tumbukas are primitive" "All Tumbukas wanna see in their life is Blantyre"  Despite all the jokes that are made about Tumbukas being ugly,  miss malawi judges have proved that wrong. Tionge Munthali, a Mzuzu based model and a student at Malawi assemblies of God University (MAGU) has scooped the Miss Malawi crown leaving everyone who doubted the north mouth agape. The 23 year old model has received 7 million Kwacha worth prizes which include a Nissan Tiida, Laptop & a cell phone. If Tumbukas really love Soya pieces, I would advise Blantyre & Lilongwe models to join them if you want to become the next miss Malawi. Soya has beauty in it. And if you thought all that Tumbukas want to see is Blantyre, well, they want to be miss Malawi as well
